Did you ever know ?

When I was at Chennai (for my VISA), I observed a World War II memorial. Indeed, as many may not know, the Indians had played an active role in WW II.

However, I know of one place in India where one can find a WW I memorial ? Any guesses ?

PAN IIT 2008

I was contemplating between another and the one that I am about to pen. I decided for this one -

The PAN-IIT 2008 Bangalore Meet

The alumnus of IIT, alongwith the current students have up with what I call as a forum, PAN-IIT for the past 5 years now. This is a stage to exchange ideas, or as the tagline goes,
a platform to learn to innovate, inspire and transform. It is a forum which calls for the active participation of IITians in nation building, both at a macro and a micro-level.

In regards with this, PAN-IIT 2008 would be organized at IIT Chennai from the 19th to the 21st of December. For more details, visit http:\\paniit2008.org.

We, the ones who have registered from Bangalore, met yesterday at a Coffee Day in Indiranagar. I was pleasantly surprised to see the plethora of people that I found out there. Naresh Agarwal, as one of the organizers of the PAN-IIT meet, did a wonderful job of getting us all at the same place.

My motive of associating myself with PAN-IIT is to know people. I feel that I went out of depth for the past two years, when it comes to thought leadership, as Mr. Neeraj of hireatease
had put in. It was a wonderful experience as I got to meet my seniors (and a few of my juniors), who I would proudly term as budding entrepreneurs. I guess my first job now is to interact with
these clever guys, and get to know their motives and their inspirations to come up with ideas.

The talk then took a shape of discussing IITians role in nation building. Though we didnt come up with concrete plans, it nevertheless was a good start. I believe, as Mr. Srikanth had to say, that if we get to meet together, we can certainly shape ourselves and define ourselves with an identity unique to us.

As a parting token, I wish people to come forward and sound their ideas and opinions on such exercises. I invite you to use my blog as a forum for discussion, and I shall try to post anything
that you have to say on this blog, within the boundaries of this blog that is.

Hope for a frequent interaction, and hope for an active involvement in the exercise of reinventing ourselves.

Google - One Shot, Two Birds

I was planning to write this the day I first read about this.

I found Google's G1 (supported by T-Mobile) a wonderful marketing strategy. As a product, google has won this round hands down.

The reason why I say this is because Google now has a product which can actually push two competitors.

In the form of a smart-phone, G1 stand right up there to the iPhone. Infact, by not having any properietary stand on the software (the open source development on Andriod), Google has a product which is free for all to develop. The result - Android is a win-win idea. It might take time for newer softwares to be developed for Android, but the day won't be far where it actually would support operations better. And by making it open-source, Google has the potential to significantly lessen the costs of software for T-Mobile.

However, the bigger shot here is on Microsoft. I wonder if Windows Mobile (HTC, etc.) can survive this onslaught. I wonder if there would be newer products which would prefer Windows at all. I am sure Microsoft would try playing catch-up in these regards.

The game's on !!!

P.S. - In the news, Motorola would be using Android, cost cutting measures :) ... but cost-cutting is not the term .. more about this in some other post.

A tragedy ...

Before I begin, I offer my sincerest condolences to those who have had personal losses in the Mumbai Takeover dated 26th Nov.

As I was watching NDTV, I found an emotive Shobha De taking on the politics of India, in the presence of the ever-effervescent Barkha Dutt.

What has prompted me write this blog is what I believe an immature take of these icons on the whole incidents that have been happening.

Shobha De pledged her support and spoke out to the politicians to not tread in Mumbai again. An act of anger, I presume. Where was all this commotion when there were blasts in Jaipur? Where was this hullabaloo post the massacre in Guwahati ?

This is a part of a bigger malaise. There were many entities that went wrong, the Intelligence (accept or not, this was a miserable failure) being the biggest culprit. The politicians have always been muppets, atleast in a twisted democracy like ours.

But to pass harsh judgements in such a sensitive situation, and that from responsible icons, was uncalled for. What was Shobha De thinking of when she demanded for the detachment from everyone else? Enraging and intensifying the situation in the name of the spirit of Mumbai, well, I found it very immature.

Understand the root problem. Its just not sufficient to react, we ought to infact quite strongly. But more importantly, we ought to react wisely, even if that means overt aggression. Its time we stand up together, rather than panic and lose control.

That is what is real spirit !
